Add a New Connector


Adding a new connector involves the process of locating your personal system from within IDEAL-ANALYTICS [IA]. The option for creating a new connector is available from the context menu (the menu, which appears on right click) of “Connector Management” section available in the “Settings” menu at the top of the application user interface.



Alternatively, it can directly be reached by selecting “New Connector” from the “New” menu at the top of the application user interface.


In both the two cases, a form will appear seeking information about the new connector you want to add to the system. In this form, you have to provide your input like the name of the connector which uniquely identifies it, the description, the source type (i.e. databases or a data-file) and some connection parameters required to communicate with corresponding type of external system. The Çonnector Source Type’ field is a drop-down which currently contains three types, namely Database, File and System.For database, currently the supported vendors are Oracle, MySQL, IBM DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server For File connectors you can choose either Microsoft Excel (.xls, .xlsx files), or CSV files. System connector is an advanced concept, which is discussed in later part of this user manual.



The image shown in the right side is the form for a database connector, i.e. the connector which has database as the source type. Database vendor needs to be selected (MySQL/Oracle/IBM DB2/MSSQL Server)along with host (IP address of the computer with which the host machine may be accessible by IDEAL-ANALYTICS [IA] server, port, user name, password and the database name which need to entered to create a database connector. There is a link at the bottom called “Test connection”. This is used to test whether the connection parameters have been entered correctly. This way, database connectors can be saved in IDEAL-ANALYTICS [IA]. Please remember that while testing the connection, the database server, specified above, must be up and running, otherwise the test will fail.



Creating a file connector is very similar to that of a database connector. The image shown in the right side is the form for File Connector. Here “Connector source type” will be “File” and “Vendor name “will be the file-type (Microsoft Excel/CSV). Finally you need to browse the file in your local computer by clicking on the icon to let the system upload your file in IDEAL-ANALYTICS [IA] server and click the “Save” button to save the file connector.

You will be notified the success or the failure of this process after finishing it. Please note that, for file connectors, the file is uploaded in the server during the connector creation. After the connector is created, if the file is modified, those changes are not going to be reflected in IA.
